Slow Cooker Ground Beef Stroganoff

I have made Slow Cooker Ground Beef Stroganoff for years!  It's always been a family favorite and one that gets asked for often.  It's one of those meals that just screams mama's home cooking.  I have 7 kids, 6 of whom still live at home and any time I make this beef stroganoff recipe, they all ask for 2nds and sometimes even thirds.  Some of them like to stir in canned peas to theirs, if I happen to be serving them that night.

Below, I plan to answer any questions that you may have about this super simple recipe.  If YOU have a question that I haven't covered though, let me know by leaving a comment and I'll be happy to answer it!

Can You Make Ground Beef Stroganoff in the Slow Cooker?

I definitely recommend precooking your ground beef for Slow Cooker Ground Beef Stroganoff.  That way you can drain the grease from it so that it doesn't turn into a greasy slop.  If you would rather not have to precook your ground beef, I recommend using stew meat instead.  It's delicious with stew meat as well as ground beef and you can trim any fat out that you don't want in before you start cooking!

I Don't Like Mushrooms, Can I Use a Different Kind of Condensed Soup for Ground Beef Stroganoff?  Can I Leave the Mushrooms Out?

Yes, any time I've been in a pinch, I will use any kind of cream condensed soup that I have on hand.  Cream of Chicken and Cream of Celery are both good options.  Also, yes, you can leave the mushrooms out.  We have several kids who also don't like mushrooms, so I often leave it out of mine and it's still really good!  Of course, sometimes, I will saute them up and put them on only mine, because I LOVE mushrooms!

Is There a Substitute for Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup for this Slow Cooker Ground Beef Stroganoff Recipe?

Yes, you can substitute by making a gravy base.  I share exactly how to do that in the post:  3 Substitutes for Canned Cream Soups.
